Wharfedale Diamond 9.6
The Wharfedale Diamond 9.6 is a beautiful speaker with an 8 inch woofer and -midrange. Unfortunately, the rubber surrounds are of poor quality and tend to tear around the curvature of the speaker surrounds over time. By placing a new rubber surround, both the woofer (20155) and the midrange (20153) can be given a second life.
The repair of both the woofer and the midrange is a relatively simple standard repair. We have some specific tips for removing the old rubber surround. The glue that Wharfedale used seems to be of the 'hot-melt' type and with these tips the old surround can be easily removed. Please note: the photos only show the woofer (20155) of the Wharfedale Diamond 9.6, but the same method applies to the midrange (20153).
It is possible to clean the cone relatively easily. Using a fingernail, carefully pry off a piece of the rubber edge of the Wharfedale woofer. If you first cut the bulge of the rubber surround (see red arrow) it will be even easier to loosen.

When the loose piece is pulled, the surround comes off the (Kevlar) cone relatively easily. The surround will often tear off at the outside of the bulge, or has already torn.

If a piece of rubber surround is loose, support the Kevlar cone with one hand, and pull the rubber surround loose with the other hand. Pull the surround towards the outside, from the center of the woofer outwards.

Any remnants of the surrounds left on the frame can best be removed with a knife.
